Dubai Offers an Experience Like No Where Else on Earth

Dubai was just a small port town thirty years ago. Today, though, things are much different. An astounding Arabian metropolis has sprung to life in the last 25 years. Home to the tallest building in the world, the largest manmade island and the most extravagant hotel, Dubai is known as The City of Superlatives. As one of the United Arab Emirates’ seven emirates, Dubai is an independent city-state. Dubai is both more contemporary and more progressive than its other UAE neighbors. The city is a perfect combination of impressive visual beauty and a dynamic atmosphere.

Dubai spent centuries as a small port known only for its pearls. Most of its residents were fishermen, and the main industries came from the sea. In the 1960s, however, oil was found nearby. The discovery brought immigrants from around the world, giving the city a larger immigrant population than anywhere else in the world. Luckily, Dubai had a forward-thinking Royal Dynasty who ambitiously embraced the immigrants and envisioned a grand new city. The city quickly rose to prominence in the finance industry, and became a transport hub for the region. Even though the oil reserves are now gone, the city remains a destination for business and tourism alike. Modern day Dubai is among the world’s richest cities. Visitors stay in seven-star hotels, and Rolls Royce and Ferraris fill the streets. Everything, including high tea, is luxurious and extravagant in Dubai.

There are no limits on the number of things to see and do in Dubai. Cultural, historical and architectural tours are all popular for tourits, as are guided ventures into the desert. Tours range from a half-day to multiple day safaris that include riding camels and sandboarding. Tour types include group tours that are guided or partially guided, private tours and custom tours. There is no scarcity of activities in the city, from watching the world’s largest dancing fountain, the Dubai Fountain, to snow skiing at the Ski Dubai indoor ski resort. Visitors can even take a ride on the world’s fastest elevator to the top of the world’s tallest building, known as Burj Khalifa. There are plenty of natural wonders around Dubai, too. The local beaches are spellbounding, thanks to their white crushed shell sand. Just outside of town, you can visit the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. This area is a desert wonderland, as you’ve only ever seen in movies. For more, please visit holidays to dubai 2014

One of the biggest attractions in Dubai is its numerous shopping experiences. Traditional outdoor markets, called souks, can be found throughout the city. The most well-known of these souks are the gold souks. Gold jewelry and items made from gold, silver and other precious metals are sold in these markets. These quaint, traditional peddlers are in stark contrast to the Dubai Mall. It is one of the most extensive shopping malls in the world, with 1,200 shops. In addition to shops, the mall has an aquarium, an ice rink and even an indoor theme park.

Of course, there were settlements in the area even before its modern growth. The Bastakiya district, the city’s historic section, is one of its most interesting districts. Traditional Arabian architecture, stunning courtyards, distinctive archways and wind catching towers can all be seen in this district. You can also take a traditional mode of transportation to get to the district. Abra boats, which are open-top water taxis, are just one way to reach the area. These boats will take you directly from the Bur Dubai town center to the Bastakiya or Deira district. The Deira district was the site of the first settlement at Dubai. The district today is known for its traditional souks and street vendors.

There’s something for everyone in modern day Dubai. The city didn’t have a single high rise four decades ago, and today is boasts the world’s tallest building. The city’s record-break manmade islands have a distinctive palm-tree shape that has even been recognized from space. Dubai offers excitement and adventure as readily as it does opulent luxury. No one in your family will ever forget their experiences in Dubai, so consider planning a tour of the city on your next holiday. cheap dubai holiday
